Cursive Writing
Handwriting Without Tears
Handwriting, manuscript or cursive, is expected to be legible. Cursive writing will be learned in third grade. Students will become more aware of pencil grip, spacing and letter formation. Third-grade students will learn cursive in a five-week unit starting at the beginning of third grade. Students will participate in mini-lessons using The Handwriting Without Tears Cursive Student Workbook. The goals of the five-week lessons are to expose all D25 students to cursive writing while in elementary school. Printing or cursive are acceptable forms of written work after the cursive letters are taught in third grade. The main goal is to have legible printing and cursive. (The district also provides a subscription to an at-home typing program, Typing Training. Students use their district logins & passwords.)
